BOCES component school districts can use this tool with the district BOCES reimbursement rate to estimate the cost of this investment in your school or district to inform the local conversation about how to attract, support & retain a high-quality teacher workforce.
Apprentices contribute to the work of teaching and student learning as a paid employee, which provides substantial return-on-investment.
Registered Apprenticeship programs help address teacher workforce challenges by providing districts high quality, diverse, and career-ready candidates.
There is a local cost as resident/Apprentices are paid wages by the district/BOCES sponsor, and in some cases, may also receive tuition reimbursement and other support services. This financial support opens pathways to individuals interested in pursuing a career in education.
Employing teacher candidates, in paid positions, as Apprentices opens opportunities to a deeper pool of candidates, broadening the pipeline, strengthening school culture, reducing turnover, increasing diversity, and improving student learning.
